Inhibitory neurotransmitter.
Glycine is a unique compact amino acid essential for the structure of numerous body proteins, especially collagen. It is needed for the structure and function of hemoglobin and myoglobin and is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain stem, spinal cord, and retina. It is also an obligate co-agonist for glutamate acting at the NMDA receptor. Glycine participates in processing motor and sensory information that permits movement, vision, and hearing. Each vegetarian capsule supplies 500 mg of glycine.
